    Novell bordermanager and AIM

is there anyway around this little pesky program? I'm sitting in my evening computer class that teaches microsoft office. I already know the stuff and am done long before class ends. All I want to do is get on AIM but they have it blocked :?

Does it prevent the program from being installed, or just block the port it's connecting from?

Do a search for anonymous proxy servers, you can use one of them to connect to AIM, you could also just use the web-based client.

    Otherwise, Novell is the devil.

You've probably already looked at these, but it has direct IP addy's on it.

if you have access to a unix machine you can use a text based client called 'pork'

                  search freshmeat.net for pork.

i usually ssh into my home machine and run pork from there. seems to work out fine and it will seem familiar if you've used irc before.

You could just setup your home machine to be accessed from school via terminal services or something like that. Automatically gets around most of your problems (assuming termnal services isn't blocked)

Many schools and businesses implement AIM protocol signature blocking, it doesn't matter what port you are using, all that matters is that the traffic is "AIM".

The place I work at now plans to do that, so I will just get a terminal server or VNC server running @ home and log into it from work. problem solved.

This method would also let you get around any internet content filters so you can goto ANY site you would be able to @ home.
