It's a remote control for his sony CD player. Sony made steering column mounted remotes for a while.

He's not talking about that. He means the one under the pull-switch for the headlights, the dial looking thing.

I think it has something to do with the rear foglights. (Euro-only thing) I could be wrong.

Oh, my bad. I guess I should read. That knob is the headlight aiming control. Some e30s used some sort of hydraulic system to aim the headlights from inside the cab. I've heard of people installing these in their cars over here... but I've never heard of a success. I guess they were real pieces of shit.

I know its not the rear fog light. That has a switch in the same place as ours, but it is 2 button and looks like one of our window switches.

I think that is the controls for the electronic aiming of the headlights.

I wondered if it was for the intensity of the rear foglight

Don't bother with it... it's a shit system used to control the aim of the headlights here in the UK *supposedly* adjust the angle of the lights when carrying heavy loads.

It's a self contained sealed hydraulic system which always breaks down, I have never seen a set of these working and they are quite pricey to replace. Most people ditch the whole idea but those who really want it convert to an electronic method of adjustment from a Vauxhall Cavalier.

                    Hope that helps guys!
