For the chip i know and been told that is it soldered on there. So would the solution be plug in a totally different ECU module ? from a later model and just get the tuner chip for that ECU ? is it that easy? Well other than that anyone have other tips to tuning my '84. I've always thought about the Proper E - i swap. But i think i'll do that in a later time with another eta.

i'm pretty sure you can just get an ecu out of an '86 or '87 eta & get a chip for that ECU, then swap it into your car for the old one w/o any problems. (you'd also be upgrading to a later version of motronic) although i'm not 100% positive.
hopfully some of the other guys on here that have a wealth of electrical & ecu knowledge will chime in ;)-Pete
