Anyone ever price an interior light bulb at BMW?

I went there today in hopes they'd have one in stock, expecting it to be $5 or less. They had none in stock and it costs an amazing $15.50 from BMW. I went to Autozone and picked up 2 similar bulbs for $3.99. I was stunned when he told me how much it cost, the parts guy was also pretty surpised it was so damn expensive. Crazy ripoff price FTL.

My dad priced a wooden console piece that goes around the shifter on his GS300.

$600 at the dealer. Not fucking joking, the parts guy was shocked, my dad was shocked, kittens died, and the earth wobbled.

he's get a completely new dash "kit" off ebay for the whole car for like $120... ebay FTW.

Welcome to the world of dealership markup. The most classic example being:

        OEM BMW E30 Bosch O2 sensor - around $120

Exact same Bosch O2 sensor for a Ford Foxbody Mustang - around $50

The moral of the story? If you're going to go buy parts at the dealership, show up with your belt undone, pants unzipped, squeezing a dollop of KY between your cheeks, and have been practicing your toe-touches for at least an hour before heading down. Afterall, you don't want to pull a hammy.

Actually, I usually get dealer parts at a price comparable to BMA or fap99. Problem is, they never stock what I need, and the dealer is 20-25 minutes away, and I'd rather have stuff shipped to my door.

For those lucky enough to have a dealership that gives the BMWCCA discount, yeah that's cool. My dealership on the other hand is a bunch of dickheads who whenever I walk in the door after pulling in in my E30, look at me like I just rolled up in that convertible Pinto that Smokey drives in Friday. Instant cold shoulder if you drive anything older than an E46. One of the parts guys looked at me like I was retarded one time when I told him the thermostat housing gasket I needed was for an 86 325es E30. He didn't know what the fuck I was talking about. I had to literally tell him, 325 E S, the mid-late 80's 3 series. It was like he'd never seen one before.

Yeah, our local BMW dealer offers a 10-15% CCA discount, BUT they also mark up BMW "suggested list price" by 15-20% to "retail" customers, so you end up paying more than list price even with the discount.

I try not to buy ANYTHING at the damn stealership.

Oh, I never go there in the e30 - are you kidding?

Seriously though, the Parts Manager knows me by name and is pretty good about getting stuff for me. And truth be told, I don't think I have ever gone there in any of my e30s.

I buy EVERYTHING from online retailers, the 3 biggest being fap99, BMA and Pelican. Dave is right, having shit delivered straight to your door is the only way to go. And Patrick gives me California Overnight shipping just about everytime without me even asking.

Dude, roll up in the Accord, with the missing left front turn signal, corner lens held in by duct tape, and the busted-ass front bumper held on to the rebar through the black trim with black screws so you can't see them as easily? They'd have me carried out of there in chains trying to get me to say my name was Toby. Maybe if I go in my Mom's new Mazda 3...

heck at the dealership I work at 4 of the 7 mechanics drive e30s, and one of the parts guys does too. The other 2 drive e34 318s with the sweet ass M43 in em.
yep, it must be nice to own a dealership.

if im still alive in 20 years which is doubtful i will sell parts to e30 owners. but right now they are 1500 dollar cars that broke ass kids own. in 20 years people will be restoring these and willing to invest a dime to keep them on the road. the way it is now you offer a part at a price cheaper than any online distributor and half the emails you get are "can you do better? im a broke college kid eating ramen noodles"
fuck that. 02,e9 owners are older with a couple dollars to spend and dont try to chisel you everytime you turn around.
