    TCD 325i Turbo Dyno Results

Here they are. It's ugly but not bad for the first time out. The engine falls flat on it's face from 4500-5000rpm. It's either an ignition rpoblem or timing issue. Otherwise the car runs great. It made really big HP at 259RWHP but torque really suffered at only 238RWTQ. That number should be closer to 275-280.

Todays temperature was a full 20F warmer than the baseline pull but the turbo added a full 112RWHP over stock at only 12psi non intercooled. I am very happy with that improvement.

Just to recap. 1989 325i bone stock motor with 151,115 miles on the untouched engine. TCD non intercooled turbo kit running 12psi non intercooled. TCD 3" exhaust. All dyno pulls in 3rd gear. All numbers SAE.

Great numbers for sure. On a dynojet, that's well over 300 horsies. :D

Why did you use 3rd gear? Just curious. I was told that with a 3.73 (you may not have the stock diff, i dunno), 4th gear will give you the most accurate reading.

      Killer sleeper. 8)

We are running a 3.25 diff and it's just alot easier on the car in 3rd gear.

The base run was down in 3rd gear with a 3.73 diff.

        Thanks,
        Todd

            Wow, great numbers!

I would love to see this thing in person. You should come up to one of our F1 Boston meets.

Sweeeeet! An E30 with 259RWHP has to feel quick. I wish I had a car your turbo kit would fit on. I'll have to work on that. :D

                  Good work Todd,

I'm glad it all came together without problems! A lil tweaking, and I'm sure it will run VERY nice. Any date set on dyno'ing the intercooled kit?

What are the manifold air temperatures? 12psi without cooling the charge is probably not too wise. Good numbers, but you're gonna be dealing with really hot combustion i'm guessing, which will probably lead to melting a piston if the bottom end isn't forged (pistons).

what alex said.... i saw an imprezza 2.5rs throw a rod at the dragway cuz he was running about that much boost non-intercooled. cool thing was it puched out a chunk of the block about the size of a silver dollar, and on that chunk was the engine code casting... nice little souvenir ;)

The issue with heated charge air is that it can contribute to pre-ignition (spontanious ignition) and'/or detonation... two distinctly different phenomena, both of which can be destructive to an engine via either extreme temperatures, as in pre-ignition or extreme cylinder pressures as in detonation. This car, at 12 psi, had an air charge temperature of approximately 170F and suffered none of the above mentioned symptoms. The TCD 535 has run 18psi non-intercooled (charge temp 250F +) without these symptoms.
At this point, we are not concerned running these boost levels non-intercooled. We are testing the limits of these systems and at this point we feel we have not pushed the 325.
