    Good deal for this e34??

well saw this one the way back home today, dad is thinking about buying it.

94' 540i Auto all the options, that dark green, tan leather (great), everything works. 170k ish miles. asking $4200 (with tax and title)

no accidents, and paint is good.
worth it you think. i know its worth some good $$, but the mileage scares me. that is some high mileage for a v8. what do you all think? i blue booked it at around $6300 (prob not the most accurate)

If your mechanic checks it and says it's good...go for it.

        Green.

        Sounds like a good deal.

          oh yea missed the color.

milege is pretty high but wouldnt a higher miliage 8 be better than a high milege 6 because of the lower revs it probably encountered.

no mattter what i think its a good deal if everyone is in the condition you mentioned.

The difference is negligable if the motor has been maintained. Even with 170k I wouldnt start worrying about the motor (6 or 8 cylinder) until about 225k... After all, it's a BMW.

Even over 200k as long as it makes good power and doesnt smoke or consume a bunch of oil, there's basically nothing to worry about.

I doubt the motor has 170k on it. The original was probably replaced with an Alusil motor at some point.

were the originals defective from the factory or something? sorry, don't know very much about the e34's.

the v8s had a problem with their nikasal blocks something about the alloy used and its reaction to the sulfur level in the fuel used. a lot has been replaced but depending on the fuel some has had no problems. i think they extended the warranty on the blocks till 100K or so. so maybe the car your looking at has a new block which is likely otherwise it has just had some good luck, once it gets that high even if its the nikasal motor i wouldnt worry especially if you are in the same area as its previous home.

I would worry about a high mile nikasal.
if it's an Alu go for it.

There are several articles on the Internet about this issue. Here's one:

I would call BMW customer relations with the car's VIN and ask if the block was changed.

                        Good luck!

e34's don't rub me the right way. I don't feel that they are extremely well put together. check for an early model e39 if that's the way you hve to go.
