    EVO III wing install HELP!

hey there guys. i bought a evo III replica rear wing made of fiberglass from some dude in England, it came off of a track car and has no studs to mount the wing the way the factory one is. Has anyone had the same issue? how would you go about mounting it on the trunk lid? Keep in mind that I have a larger CF Gurney flap that worries me when im gonna be driving, and here in germany on the autobahn if your not doing a min of like 60 or 70 wow buddy get off the read ya know... any help would be greatly appreciated.

I thought of using serious self taping screws and automotive body glue but thats my last resort... please help.

Most of those wings should already have inserts in them and then you just use bolts or nice stainless button head hardware

trent nothing. its completely flush and solid on the bottom of the wing. the guy said that the wings ends were you would mount it, are filled in, not hollow. is that what your talking about? whats button head hardware? can you please explain. thanks.

If this came off a track car, then there should be at least 4 holes in the bottom of the wing. Are there even inserts for the gurney flap to the wing body?

It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.

With some pictorial help I might be able to offer something constructive.

My e3 wing bolts to the trunk lid itself the same way the stock one does.

The gurney then bolts to the wing through allen head screws (from the factory at least).

Are you saying that you don't have holes tapped to bolt the gurney flap to the wing?? If that is the case, it is going to be an extremely delicate procedure to get this to work.

Did you get this from Martin?

Heli coils are what they use when you strip your threards. Basically they drill out your old threads and leave a hole that is a larger diameter and then tap new threads into it that are also larger than the original diameter. The heli coil is an collar type insert that has threads like a bolt on the outside that are the same diameter as the newly tapped threads, you screw this in and on the inside of the collar are threads that are the same sizie as the original. This will probably be your solution.

no no no no, i didnt get the wing from Martin. The wing has pre-made holes for the gurney flap, thats not the case. its the 4 studs that are used to fix the wing to the trunklid is what im worried about.

and you see if it was just a show car or a toy thing it be one thing, but driving on the autobahn doing 80 at cruising speeds with a large gurney flap laying down all that drag, im worried about the wing coming off and me loosing out on all the time and $$$ i have spent

Look, if you do not have any holes (anf you confirm it afer recieving back the wing, drill the four holes in the wing supports, then go to a haredware store, and get threaded inserts (they are normally good up to 500 kilos), these are grooved threaded inserts, you drill the holes, mix some epoxy resin (araldit two compund will do) and press the insert into the hole with the bolt insertrd in the thread (prevously oil a little the bolt so the epoxy does not weld to the steel if you are not able to get a blind insert) the grooves on the outside of the insert should scrape the edeges of the drilled hole.

DO not use self tapping or self threading, they will press on your wing supprt and might crack it, pre drill and glue with epoxy.

You can have these custom made, but the standard ones are good and they stock them, so they are mass produced, therefore cheaper.

this may sound shitty at this point, but I'd just save yourself the problems. Sell it to get the cost back and go find a high quality knock off or a used OEM part. That is unless by the time reading this post you've already solved the problem.

dude, thanks man. thats what im talkin about.

uofom3, i dont think i can get my money back for what i bought it for, and then if i do go with the method above i think it will work. that is if the resin holds up to 500Kg.
