Well this weekend was the third or forth time he has asked me about what some BMW models sell for and if I've happened to see any in the local classifieds. He hasn't ever flat out said hey will you look for a car for me for under x amount of dollars. But I get the feeling he is interested in getting one. The only BMW he has ever driven was a rusty 2002tii that was my moms. He works for a Computer software company and flies to comsumer sites every week to help install the software and trouble shoot. So he is only around on weekends. I doubt he'd want a newer then 95 model, as a 96 has been the newest car they have owned untill my step sister Totaled it  Any suggestions as to what I should maybe look for and I'll print some info out and give it to him. I'd say an e30 but he needs a car that is a little easier to get out of as he dosn't like climbing outof my lowered 325is. Plus he'd want something that is dependable. I was almost thinking of an e34 or maybe an E32 but who knows. I've asked if he'd want a 2 door or sedan and I never get a straight answer. I still can't believe he's interested in a BMW.

any e34 should make him happy. The m5 might be a lil too much for him though. 525, 530, 535 or 540. You know you're gonna wanna pimp it on occasion too ;)
Good luck with the search. Most of the V8s have have had their blocks changed over by now so its just the other maint. stuff you need to check up on.

Maybe I'll look for some e34's I think they'd be a good car for him. I don't know if he will even buy when or when, as they have a Large conversion Van and a Nissan sentra my Stepsister and Stepbrother take to school. I'd probally find him a (m30) 535 or a (M50) 535. He is Turning 50 this september so I think maybe he's looking for a car for himself, as it's been at least 6 years since he has had his own car.85 325e 2.7 ITB'd stroker

after driving my 318 home with me(16hours), my dad immediately began searching and found an e30 of his own. He likes it so much, his 2000 acura tl is gathering dust. Now I know you mentioned an e34, but if he's only using it on the weekends, maybe the e30 would be more fun? If he's gonna get a slushbox though, i'd definately get an e34 over an e30BEERTECH

e39 530i, 540i-6, or M5
The e39 line is by far the best BMW out there (if you took price, reliabilty, performance, comfort, features, safty, etc and averaged them out). They look sweet. They just can't be beat. Go have him look at an e39. I can't see anyone NOT being 100% pleased with their choice.
if it's too much or too new or too luxurious, tell him to go grab a GOOD condition e30, like a 90 325is. He should be very pleased.

An E34 is a good car. The later the better. V8s are the least reliable of the bunch for more reasons than just the engine blocks; an M50 525i is your best bet.
Avoid E32s. Early ones have good engines but shitty interiors and electrical stuff. Late ones have shitty motors (V8s again) but they finally fixed the electronics.Adam Fogg- '88 M3
