hmmmmm, after talking to my dad...

he asked me when I'm putting the 5speed in, and I said I would like to wait until I build the 2.8

However he had an interesting thought

my parts tranny has 210K on it, so I was planning on turning it in for core and getting a lower mile one. so why don't I just get a Getrag 260 with the bellhousing sensor holes and do the swap on my eta.

it would technically be less work when I do the 2.8Swap as teh tranny would already be there, and I would get rid of my fucking granny tranny earlier. I have all the other parts i need.

only con is the 3.73LSD diff I have, as I was preplanning for the 2.8. Would I get that annoyed with it?

makes sense. The 260 bolts up to the M50 from what I understand. I don't think my neighbor changed the rear end from the stock iS....1st gear is more or less useless.

Going with a M20B28 Low Compression Stroker motor, not an M50

all my spare parts are out of an 89 325i

driveshaft, pedal box, slave, flywheel, clutch (which I will replace) etc

anybody see any incompatibilities, mainly with the driveshaft? from what I hear its the same. I would get a new clutch obviously

Beileve me, it has crossed my mind, hell even the S50 has crossed my mind, however after seeing what Matt did, and the fact that i have the same purist feeling as the S14 owners do, I would rather have my M20 :)

3.73 will be great with the 2.8 M20.

yeah, which is why I bought it, although with the ETA, you think I would get annoyed with it over time? cause after looking at tranny prices, I am really thinking about just doing the 5 speed swap now, and then taking care of the 2.8 after summer

Only possible problem with getting a new (different) tranny is that the diameter of the holes on the output flange might not match the guibo that goes with your 89i driveshaft. You can swap output flanges though.
