    Research Paper--Hybrid, hydrogen powered cars

    Fellas,

I'm doing a research paper on technology of current engines, and what we can expect for engines in the future. I'm going to discus hybrids and hydrogen powered cars (like BMW's Clean Energy 750 :)), and am wondering if anyone here knows of any good sources for some information. Any books you can recommend? Websites?

Just trying to get a few more sources with quality information about Hybrids/Hydrogen power.

    Thanks,
    Stu

man i did a study on that, got a great grade too because i did it before fuel cells and hydrogen became known well.
check out mercades benz's website they have a great explation on the fuel cell.
      and also check out

Ballard Power is the leading global provider of innovative clean energy fuel cell solutions that offer superior performance at a reduced operating cost.

local company, in vancouver bc, that is number one in fuel cell development as of right now, we actually have a couple busses going around running on hydrogen, and we will have 3 hydrogen filling station within the next couple years, and ford is realeasing a few vehicles (three if i remeber) for some lucky public people to use them and try them out. also since vancouver won the 2010 winter olympics, they plan on having the highway up to the mountain where it is held to be one of the may fuel cell roads, with mutiple filling stations. and by the year 2010 there should be hydrogen filling stations from whistler, british columbia, canada all the way to california, if arnold keeps his word to have a filling station every 3kms on all califorina highway.

      hope that helps,

contact me if you need some more info, i could dig up my project if you like.

I also did a research project on this for my Environmental Sience classin High school, Total BMW has an article on the 750hl. My project was on Air polution in Chattanooga, as around 50 years ago the Air polution in Chatt was higher then any where else in the country. I also went down to the local Air pullution control bureo, and talked to a lady there who gave us ton of info and even came and talked to us. I'm sure they would have some info on Hybrid cars, as our Bureo has a Honda Hybrid that drive around Downtown.

            Stu-

Understand there are two ways to hydrogen power a car: Fuel Cell power, and internal combustion (which the 750hL uses). Bear in mind that internal combustion of hydrogen isn't a completely zero-emissions process. Our atmosphere has nitrogen in it, and therefore combustion of hydrogen in a nitrogen atmosphere will create oxides of nitrogen (referred to as NOx).

Some fuel cell manufacturers: Ballard Power Systems (prev mentioned) and UTC Fuel Cells (www.utcfuelcells.com). There is also a "biography" on Ballard Power Systems out there.

If you're specifically intersted in the 750hl, screw reading media articles on it, and go straight to the source. BMW provides literature and marketing info on a UK-based website (http://www.bmweducation.co.uk/). There is quite a bit of info on hydrogen power on the site, and you can also order publications and CDs from the site (click on "BMW Enquiry Service Online" then "BMW Education Service Online"). I've never ordered any publications, but they might mail them to the US.

I did something fun like this in Technical Writing, but we turned it into a Hydrogen powered Lawn Mower. There is tons of info on how bad lawn mowers pollute, and it is a more unique idea than running a car with hydrogen power. It got BIG points. It was a group paper that didn't have to be completely based in reality, more like putting together a fake proposal. Teacher ate it up. Too bad my computer has crashed since and I don't have the paper or the cad drawings of the lawn mower. It was ENG331 at NCSU.

The articleon the 750hl was in the OCt 2001 Bimmer Magazine. I think I had found the same info online but can't remeber where.
