    $2000 35ix?

Do you think $2000 is too much for a non-running 1988 325ix? It is a two door, 5-speed with very clean interior and roughly 118,000 miles. The body is straight and the paint is decent, but I'm going to assume that it may have a tiny amount of rust since it's been outside at this unpaved parking lot for like three months. However, it has been stored and hardly driven for the last ten years. Apparently, it needs a tune-up, and fuel pump, and it's just been sitting outside at this shop as a back burner priority. Anyway, my dad is gonna offer the guy $2000 for it. Is that reasonable?

edit: I can't believe i screwed up the thread title. Wow.

that sounds like an awful lot for a car that doesnt run. That also seems like high-mileage for being stored and hardly driven for ten years. If that is the case, all the rubber bushings and hoses are probably crap and you'll be chasing vacuum and coolant leaks unless you just replace everything at once after you buy it.

I don't think 2k is that bad. Just considering how a 2 door manual IX is kinda hard to come by these days, if the body is good, paint, interior etc. I would say worst case it may need a fresh m20, which aren't that expensive. It could only get hairy if the transfer case for the AWD or something like that is shot.

Thats a big leap of faith to assume that whoever your dad is dealing with is telling the truth and/or not omitting other issues. I personally wouldn't pay that much for a non running car that you aren't 100% sure about the cause.

Very true. 2k for a non running car is kinda a leap of faith. Maybe get a PPI to diagnose whats wrong or at least verify the AWD system is working. If it were me and even if the motor was shot but the AWD was still all good, I would probably still buy it for 2k.

Offer him a thousand and stick to it. Maybe go to $1300. Worst case scenario you part it out.

but still if its fairly clean and the VC isnt shot you did good. But start at 1200 and go from there.
