Damn - M Coupe Lovers check this out

Wehn I sold my M Coupe last year, I thought that perhaps in a few years Ill get another one. Amazing car. Now that Ive seen this (click on link below) I think I will get something else when the time comes. That is REAl disturbing.

That said, in recent time there have been several reports of Z3 differrnetial / rear chassis failures.

        no matter:

BMWNA has agreed to repair the car under warranty. I brought the car to the dealer for an inspection by a BMWNA field service representative. Once he saw the trunk he agreed to fix it under warranty.

i wonder what a tracked car would look like. besides, warranty coverage be damned, I really would not want my car to do that....

blame bmw!! that same thing happened to my friend's 99 mcoupe. he has never tracked it or anything. yeah he does get on the throttle a little now and then but who doesn't. a car that's supposed to be considered the ultimate driving machine should be able to handle it. the best part of it is that another friend of mine is a tech. at a bmw dealer and says he has seen it happen on 5 other occasions, and still bmw doesn't want to cover it under warranty. they want him to pay $2k for labor. don't get me wrong i love bmws but i will never think of owning a mcoupe or z3.

Rule #1: Never EVER buy an American made BMW.

Being said its great that they are going to fix it but I would be really nervous to drive that car afterward because, well, because of what else could have been hurt from all that movement.

                  That is wicked scary.
                  Im now E30less.

Does anyone know how the E30 floor pan compares to the M Coupe floor pan? I assume the diff and subframe mount to the unibody in similar fashions?

The mounts are the same. The difs and subframe on the Z cars are the same as the E30. MY guess as to the troubles might come from the lack of a firewall and in reengineering the rear box to go all the way up to the roof instead of just a couple feet to the trunklid.

I dont like how those welds have been pulling too. That is just plain freaky.

Big differance in HP and TQ numers so I don't think you should worry. Also you probably didn't pay 40k for your new M coupe.

Scarey part was this was going to be my next car in 5 years when the come down in prices. They will be the next E30 M3 to be coveted by purists. My .02

That is weird that it would happen on the coupe with the extra support from the pilars and roof. The scary thing is the body/chassis flex you can feel in the M roadster, even with the underbracing. I'll have to get my dad to keep an eye on that.

A friend of mine had some similar problems with his M Roadster. His car is tracked regularly though...
