    The Beauty in Simplicity

Last night, my friend that got a new Range Rover HSE came over and we took it for a cruise. I think the car is beatiful and elegant, and so is his Carrera 4, but I noticed something, these cars are so complicated compared to the e30. I learned really that I loved the simplicity of our cars and how easy they are.

I sure as hell am not crazy about the whole iDrive system in the newer BMWs.

once everything is dialed in on a new car... its pretty similar.

i just prefer the bare bones of the e30.

The I-drive isn't really all that bad once you get used to it.
          It's actually downright intuitive.

New cars are far more efficient and capable. They're quieter, generally faster, and arguably, on a per-unit basis, more reliable.

Older cars, on the other hand, can be more rewarding to drive.
Have you ever driven an MG?? It FEELS like a sportscar, and they're FUN to drive, but they're slow, primitive, and handle like CRAP.

The e30 has just the right mix of technology, convienience, and raw sportscar to suit my taste. It's got things that some new cars still don't have, and it's fun to drive, affordable, and easy to work on.

What I like about working on the E30 is that everything is modular and relatively easy to get to. Its like the engineers designed the car to be disassembled because they considered that parts can and often do go bad. The Germans just have a completely different attitude when it comes to keeping the car serviced and maintaintained. Most German manufacturers even include a set of hand tools with the car.

In contrast the American car manufacturers tend to build the car in such a way where you can't get to the spark plugs, the power steering pump, or the drive belts simply because they assembled all of the components of the engine outside of the car and then shoe-horned it into the car from underneath. So then 100K down the road when you have a problem, you gotta bend your arm in directions that you didn't know that it could go just to be able to replace the alternator.
