where to buy Bosch alternator rebuild parts

My alternator died on the e46 today. It has been whining since I got the car. Today the battery light came on, and the car died about an hour later while driving. Does anyone know where I can get a rebuild kit for the alternator? It is a 140amp from a 2000 323ci.

realoem lists individual components that you can probably order, well it does for e30...but it's cheaper just to get the whole thing sometimes..

Chances are the car has a Valeo brand alt. If that's the case, don't bother screwing with that crap. It's better to find yourself a Bosch one. If you're one of the lucky few that got a Bosch from the factory then ok to attempt a rebuild.

It is a Bosch 120 amp. I ended up buying a used one for $75. I should have rebuilt the old one but I didn't really know what to do. It actually was not the alternator that was wining, it's the p/s pump, but the alternator was bad.

I opened the rear case of the old one and there is a brass bushing in the back that had a deep groove ground in it with a metal peice riding on it connected to the voltage regulator. Do you think that is the problem?

Probably some shaft bearing failure that allows too much end play. Can't say it's uncommon on those, unfortunately. Bosch ones go through bearings, and Valeo ones fry their regulators and put a ton of voltage into teh car. With the prices of some of the control units on an E46 I'd rather take my chances with a Bosch.

I got a new alternator at the local auto parts store that comes with a lifetime warranty. Anything ever goes bad with it, and I get a new one, no questions asked.

Sometimes it's not always necessary to go with the OEM parts. This one I got works great, and was probably a lot cheaper than a Bosch.

I was going to get one at Autozone, but even with my discount it was $180. I want to rebuild the core that I have so I can stick it on ebay and recoup some of ma monies.
