Is it hard to retrofit an illuminated shift knob?

It would be kind of cool to have one. What color do they light up and what cars do they come out of?

red, mine is out of a e46 m3. I need to replace the 6spd w/ a 5spd cap though. Looks great at night though. And yes its really easy to install.

Do you just splice power out of the window harness or what?

if you can wait, i have one and a boot, one piece shiftknob, black leather one with a 5spd pattren and an M logo in the center. it had the wiring cut and the power wire is somewhat short in length, easy fix though, im flying home tomorrow to the states, and wont be able to ship it. however if you can wait till march 12th, i can have it shipped to your door for $53 USD. let me know now, i want to order a non light ZHP shift knob so i need to know if i should or not.

I spliced mine into the illumination for the front ash tray since it was right there...you can do whatever though

i dont have any up close pics of it, im sorry, and if it wast dark out, and if i wasnt packing for my flight tomorrow, i would run out and snap a shot, but
it is in i would say 7/10. the reason why im asking so little for it (compared to what used ones on ebay go for) is because the ZHP knob im buying is 60 USD so if i could get away with just paying say 10 or 15 for it, i would be happy. i know i can get way more for it on ebay, especially since its with its own leather boot. no tears no cuts.

I guess what im asking is why 7/10? Mine is terrible now - so anything is an improvement.

WELL...

-its not 100% new
-it doesnt smell like brand new leather;)
-it isnt worn out and crappy like a 20 year old shiftknob
-it isnt cut or riped anywere
-still has a good texture to it and look. (otherwise it would have never been put into the M3)
-umm... lets see why else would i be so anal and say its a 7/10 not a 5/10 or a 9/10.... yea thats just my honest though process.

-it is used, and does have some wear around the top.

I DO NOT WANT YOU TO THINK THAT IM TRYING TO PUSH THIS ON YOU...but cmon man, buy it, buy it.. lol ok ok no.
