    Adding a wire antenna

When I had my car totally repainted, I had them shave my antenna hole, as I hated that chrome mast with a passion. I also never listened to the radio as most of the local stations sucked.

Times have changed. A new techno/dance station is online and I also now enjoy listening to AM radio for intelligent political and financial discussions.

I do not want to redrill the hole or add another mast. I was wondering if there was some kind of limp/wire antenna I could snake around my trunk. There has to be as all new BMW's have no visible outside antenna.

Fit an E30 M3 style antenna, the kind that mounts at the front of the roof. I think those look really awesome.

*EDIT* Duh, I just read you don't want to add another mast.

I'm not sure how it is done, but I know on the e36's the antenna is intergrated into the rear window. Not to be confused with the defroster matrix. It is basicly the same thing, but I'm almost certain (without taking a closer look) the antenna and defroster matrix are not the same matrix.

There are also built in signal booster boxes on the e36 on both rear c-pillars under the headliner.

Go to any half decent car audio place and tell them you want an internal antennae. It is a wire that plugs right in into the back of your head unit with a standard plug and needs a power source and a good ground(I used my cigarette lighter wires). The actual antennae is a small box about a half inch thick, half inch wide and 3 inches long. You can run the wire up the A pillar and through the headliner and stick it to the window, or just stick it under the seat like I have done for now.

I have that on my parts car. They had a radio antenna as well, but I am sure you could use the cell phone antenna as your radio antenna.

I am tempted to smooth off the ariel and get an internal one. Are the internal ones any good?? Are they expensive??

The one I got cost about 40 dollars. As for the reception, I can tell a difference between when I have it under the seat and when I have it up on my dash, that's why I want to run it up the A pillar and mount it to the windsheild.

Why not get this one, I think it suits the E30 better anyway. Dont know how good the reception is though.
