Can I ask what you do at this dealership? Are you a stock boy or a lot attendant?

Maybe a Oil Filter Lube Tech?

I only ask because it seems to me you don't know jack about anything.

Wouldn't fit without a remote brake booster and a lot of custom work. But somone on R3V does have a Euro M3 motor in his car, so it can be done. He's in Iceland and name is Gunni, gstuning is his s/n.

People have. Chuck90M3 or i forget his screenname is very helpful with people asking about his swap. Also, Bluntheadtrama on Bimmerforums answers a lot of peoples inquires.

I think you're not him then. I just wanted to check.

I work in parts. You're right, I don't know much, which is why I'm asking. Do you have a better way of finding information?

Been a while since I hit a newbie with the search emoticon.

            Welcome to R3V!

Not to talk down to the noob, but this topic has been beaten to death. The search tool is sometimes difficult to bring up good results, so I'll help you out:

and that's just some of the threads about M50/S50 swaps on this forum. Amazing, isn't it?

Anyway, here are a couple good sites to look at:

http://www.lukasbmw.com he's done it, and he even has the cost of all parts. All the tips, pros and cons. Look in modification articles -> M50 swap.

The Zionsville CD is a generic swap kit. It is a "universal" kit for all E30's, and there are a lot of factors that need considering in different model E30's that arn't covered in the swap CD. Examples: wiring info is different on almost every E30; 84-85 318, 84 325e, 85-87 325e, 88 325e, 87 325i, 88-91 325i, '91 318is.

The M50 swap is the same as the S50, as the engine externally are the same. So the process will be the same, the results......very different,

Stu's father is one of the premier BMW engine rebuilders in the nation. He pioneered the swap. He can be very helpful, to say the least. He put an OBD-1 3.2L S50 in Stu's 318is.

Lukas is a member he and has a M50 swap.
Trent is a mod here and has a M50 with M3 cams.
Ryan Stewart is looking at a S50 swap as well.

Here is a BF.c thread about the swap. BF.c is a good forum, but not nearly as technically knowledgable on the whole as R3V:

Thanks for all the responses and assistance. I had no idea that this subject was discussed so many times before. I say again, I'm new to the tuning scene. Jordan is right, I don't know much about anything. But for an administrator, he wasn't much help...haha. Just kidding. Right now I'm in the information gathering/planning phases of the car. Thanks again. You'll be hearing from me a lot. And just to let everyone know, If anyone has any detailing or car care questions, I can help with that too. I detail cars on as a side job.

I am in the process right now of getting all the parts together for the swap, if you want to do an S50 be prepared to spend at least 6k just as everyone else has said. I have already spent that, but than again I am upgrading a few parts such as LTW flywheel etc. I just about have everything I need just trying to finalize a few things before I start the swap. I am hoping to start the actual swap in a month..

Seriously. I paid 700 for my M50, and rebuilt it completely for another grand. 5K is ludicrous - you can get an entire e36 325is in decent shape for 5k.

Haven't heard much about the M30 swap, 3.5L engine you could probably get cheaper than the M50. I just saw a complete 635csi on sale for $3500 with 140k on the clock.

Hey sorry to bring back a thread that has been dead for a couple weeks...anyway. I've posted on bimmerforums for a while but just checked this site out today. My dad has an E46 right now, I have a crappy Saab, and in a little under a year I'm going to have $20k to spend on a car.

I'm looking at E46s, but I am also interested in the E30/S50 swap. I've heard people talk about $6k for parts (just the engine?) plus around $3k for labor. Add in the $3-4k price of the E30 and we're already looking at around $12k, being very conservative.

I would also be needing to upgrade the suspension, obviously, and would like an LSD as well. Is it feasible to perform this swap under a budget of $20k? If not, what would be sacrified by sticking to that price point? What do you think a rebuilt S50 engine would sell for? I'ts probably alot easier to buy a rebuilt one (or one with low mileage) then it would be finding a higher mileage one and having to spend even more labor money rebuilding it.

                                Thanks alot.
