Chrome euro bumpers on late model?

A guy down the road from me has a 88+ 4dr e30 pea green met. I never payed much attenchion to it, but it has the chrome euro bumpers on it and they have been federalized with side markers. I thought that on 88+ models they got the plastic bumpers exept the us ones with DB. I don't know what model it is and have only seen it from 20' away. Could this be a gray market car or what ever you call it?

Edit: if this is in the wrong section please move it.

Have a look at his rear arches and his taillights, it's probably just a imported/modified pre 88 model.

Think someone would go through the trouble to change to the late model tail lights?

I think it's probably possible, although I've never seen it. What you would have to do is find a set of chrome bumpers from a cabrio.

Since plastic bumpers are a direct swap onto cabbys, chrome cabrio bumpers should also be a direct swap onto a late model sedan, right?

I must need glasses!!! Cause i just looked at it and it is a early model. A 324d to be exact. It had all of the euro stuff on it like the grills, valance, and bumpers. I didn't get to look inside it.
