In middle of replacing DS door brake and I have a quick question

I am in the middle of replacing my driver side door brake. The old brake was broken into two pieces... no wonder there was a huge freaking pop.

Anyway, when I removed the old brake, I noticed the thing was COVERED in grease. Should I grease up the new brake the same way?

EDIT: OK well I got the new brake installed just fine, but there are problems. When you open the door it still makes a POP noise, once at haflway, and again when the door is fully open.

WTF is causing this, it's a brand new door brake. It closes quietly, unlike the old one, which was broken in half.

Is the bracket on the door jamb loose?? Is the door brake itself broken (even though it's new.....)??

It should NOT pop when opening or closing.

The bracket on the door jam does appear to move a little when opening and closing.

How does one access the bracket to check it out and see if it needs repair?

How do I tell if my new door brake is broken?

did the metal on the door distort or crack where the old brake was? if so consider koala's reinforcement.

is the leading edge of your door hitting the fender?

Did you get the pin that goes thru the door bracket and the door brake fully inserted? It has to go all the way thru all three holes-two on the door bracket and one on the brake arm. I bought an OEM door brake and the factory pin does not fit thru the brake arm hole, so it pops at the same points as yours.

I will either drill the hole in the brake arm slightly larger, or just buy another new door brake from the dealership.

I was hammering it down and it was just sticking up a tiny little bit. Smacking it with the hammer didnt seem to make it go down all the way, but almost. I didnt install the clip on it, as it wasnt quite down far enough. But then I tested the door and took everything back a part again.

That's what I thought-that pin must fit all the way thru so that you can install the clip. If you don't, it allows everything to flex causing the popping noise you are hearing.

You might want to take a drill bit and ever so slightly enlarge the hole on the brake arm-but I mean just a SLIGHT bit. If you do it too much, there will still be slop in the brake arm.

Well I took some pliers and was able to get the pin fully seated. I still had the poping noise. But I also noticed the bracket inside the door frame is moving around pretty good. I think the welds are broken. I'm in the process of taking off the fender, and am kind of stuck. I have a shitload of screws removed but the fender is still attached on pretty good. How does one do this?
