Need help!! Piece that door brake attaches to is broken inside the car body

The piece my door brake connects to inside the body is broken. Or at least I think some of the welds have popped up, as it moves. I just installed a new door brake, and I still have a pop.

Anyway, I spent last night trying remove my fender, and this afternoon I took of the bumper and was finally able to remove my fender.

But now that the fender is off, I still do not have access to the area that needs to be rewelded.

    What do I do????

You should be able to weld it (or get it welded) from the outside (door open of course).

Pull back the rubber cover and take the end of the door brake "arm" out of the bracket and zap it a couple of times, a little touch up paint and it should be good.

It's not too hard, if you have a welder.

So far I have drilled and tapped a hole in between the two weld marks on the body. The bolt tightened up fine but that didnt make a difference in the popping noise, and the bracket still moved. So next I drilled a hole through the weld closest to the door, and put a self tapping screw in. When the screw was seated about 3/4ths of the way down, the head broke off. BUT the popping noise is gone!!! When you open the door the metal on the body (not the door) flexes a lot when the door is opened and closed.

Since I dont think just that broken self tapping screw is going to hold for long, I just went to Harbor Frieght and bought a cheap wire feed welder. So my next step is do you exactly what you described.

I have never welded before, and after about 5 minutes of practice, I welded the upper part of the bracket to the car body. The pop is gone, although there is still a creak. You can also see the metal on the body flex quite a bit.

I dont think those reinforcement plates would be big enough to really help anything.

Not sure what I'm going to do next.. but I am getting real tired of it.
