Basically I lost the key to my car before I could get a spare made. I have been trying to get a replacement key, but everything I have tried falls through. First I went to the dealership to get a keycode which I took to a locksmith and had 2 keys made. Those keys worked on the doors but not the ignition. The car had 2 keys to begin with one for the doors the other for the ignition. I tried the door key in the ignition before I went to BMW but it didn't work. So I tried to pull the ignition tumbler and I could not get the tumbler out after way to long trying. I read I basically need the key to get the tumbler out. Does anybody know if thats true on a 86?
So today I call a mobile locksmith and he comes to make a key for the ignition. He works for about 45min and then comes to me and says my ignition is locked. He claims the tumbler is either seized or the steering wheel lock mechanism is jammed. He showed on his van how the wheel will move side to side an 1/8 of an inch and my cars wheel was solid. Well I go back to my car. Sure enough the key doesn't work and my wheel moves back and forth just like his van. Not solid at all. The key he made works for the glove box and the doors but not the ignition. So what do you guys think? Am I missing something here?
