    Moving to Texas - inspection?

I'm going to be moving to College Station, Texas this coming June (post-doc at Texas A&M). I noticed that there is an inspection.

Do any of you have smoked headlights and will I get tagged for that? I just got a set of the smoked smileys and wanted to know if it made sense to install them before I got the inspection or afterwards. I have the time and desire to get them done now, but don't want to have to put the sealed beams back in to pass the inspection.

I've got a couple of friends who run smoked headlights without any problems. This is Texas, not California.

i stopped a ricer kid one day for numerous equipment violations and according to him, texas (where he was from) on the whole is pretty lax about stuff like that. no open container law too woo hoo!! (at least as of the early 90's)

found an on-line inspection manual with the link for the headlights...might be a no-go...

There is definitely an open container law! They dont like that here.

As far as inspections go, alot of it depends on the place doing the inspection. A standalone inspection station typically does things strictly by the book. They wont pass your car if your idle is too high or low or if you have tears in your wiper blades.

If you go to a gas station on the outskirts of town who does inspections on the side, they are typically more lenient and tend to overlook the small things like tinting or even exhausts...

And from what I've heard (no personal experience of couse!), you may even be able to pay extra for a "guaranteed pass" at some stations.

Personally, I dont think you'll have a problem with tinted headlights.

Thats the truth... if you "don't pass", always have a couple of your dead president friends around, they are usually friends with the guy doing the inspection as well.

Thanks for the replies. I had seen the website (no emissions in College station!) and wondered about how serious they were about the smoked lights. I know that the black thing doesn't do anything to hinder the light coming out of the smileys, but it probably doesn't hurt to just get the sticker and install them after the inspection. I can totally understand making smoked tails illegal because it makes the brake lights dimmer.

Hold on - I thought drinking and driving was a southern sport! When I lived in Warner Robins, Georgia, they sold beer in singles with a little brown bag the size of the can. Most of the people I knew would pick one up on the way home. My boss would buy two and fill up one of those big drink cups, swilling his bud light through a straw.

Dont get me wrong, boozing is a sport in many local vicinities (especially in mesquite!), but you'll still get put in the pokey if they catch you with one while driving!

You'll see plenty of brothers drinking brown bagged 40's around here!
