Allright, so my glass moonroof has been sitting in my garage for a couple months now (after new paint on the metal portions to match my car's color). The weather is starting to break, and I thought I'd give it a try myself to install it. Does anybody have a DIY on how to do this for someone with "average" wrenching experience? Do you guys know of any website that has step-by-step directions, maybe with pics too? I tried searching, but it seems my search parameters were to convoluted to make any headway. I could just fork out the money to have a bodyshop do it, but I thought I'd give it a whirl first. Thanks everyone!

I have a glass moon roof that I have yet to install also. When I was removing it from the car in the junkyard, it didn't appear to be that hard of a job but I would say that it does take a great deal of experience to be able to mentally "see" where all of the clips and the track goes into position.
A perfect example would be hanging a plaque on a wall. It has the little cut-out for the nail smack-dab in the middle of the plaque. And so the trick is to be able to get the hole over the nail without scratching up the surrounding wall surface. So some people can look at the back of the plaque and then they can look at the wall and hang it on the nail perfectly while others will find the task a bit more challenging.
So back to the moon roof.. I can visually see in my mind as to how the cable wraps around the crank and the pulleys and other mechanisms in the track and if you can successfully get the standard metal sunroof out, while knowing exactly what you did, (in lieu of just unscrewing screws and yanking on it until it pops free) installing the glass unit should be relatively manageable.
I am guessing that what I have shared is not really enough information to determine whether you can handle tackling the project but if I had any doubts about it, AND, I didn't want it to leak, I think I would take it to someone with a great deal of wrenching experience. I doubt that you will find anyone who knows exactly how to do the job but I know that there are many people out there who have the experience and know-how to figure it all out.Comment
