ive never heard of one but, what is a fuel distributer? did a 1983 320I have one? any idea how much?

You should be able to pick one up cheap... Go to 2002faq.com and post a WTB in the parts section also try the e21 forums... you'll get one pretty easily. They are ~$1200 new

Yeah. but if you need a good one, chances are most of the old ones that have been sitting around unused for any period of time will be messed up.
