    How do you tune the AFM?

    I've been reading a bit about tuning the AFM - how do I know which direction to adjust it, if any?

    It's been a while but counterclockwise loosens the tension on the spring.
    Btw, if you don't have any mods such as bigger injectors, why do you feel you should be adjusting the afm?

      I'm thinking of cheating on my emissions test and making the car run more rich. Going to retard the timing and maybe close off some air supply?

        Unless you have an adjustable cam gear, you can't retard the timing on a Motronic car.

          Tighter = leaner

            I meant the ignition timing - can i not change that?

              You cannot adjust the spark on a Motronic ECU.

                hmmmm........ Pat I go for my emissions tomorrow and I'm going to just cheat it up and throw in a few gallons of denatured and try my hand at that. I have a gut feeling that I'm not going to pass without outside assistance so to speak.....

                  Plenty of places in town to "obtain" the sticker w/o even getting the test done. What side of town you on?

                    That is actually untrue. There is room on the front cover to "slot" the position of the crankshaft sensors. IIRC you can get 4 or 5 degree each way.

                          are you talking about the Fuel Quality Switch? I know the m3's DME has an FQS that can make the motorn run richer/leaner. If you want it to run richer for a short period of time, just change the FQS position in the DME and that should take care of it. I'm pretty sure you can add/subtract a couple of degrees of timing to achieve the desired change. Again, I know for a fact this is on the e30 m3, but not certain if it's on the m20/10/42 powered e30's or for what model years.
