Significantly more weight is number one. Suspension parts are harder to find, some bodykit additions are cabrio-specific, the plastic rear window, the completely useless back seat, smaller trunk....
There's more, but once I knew half of that I knew it wasn't for me. I'd probably still have one if I lived in like LA or Miami though.
says the guy has a friend with a RED '92 e30 325ic!!!!
:)
hmmm whadya guys think
It'll probably have low miles.
how much can i expect to pay for it if its in good condition
$6-8K
ouchies.. thats about double what i was hoping to spend for an e30 :p
is that like *mint* condition with <50k miles or something, or is that just mediocre condition :-\
'92 325ic is still 168hp stock right?
Cabrios are more desirable to the pulic than hardtops. The '92 was the last year of the e30, thus they'll probably be nicer with less miles.
I've seen the at $9K+ for really nice ones.
I can't tell if the shift lever is out of position, but that's definitely not a stock knob. A short shifter without a bent lever would sit more forward than stock position
does this mean there's been some damage to the shifter? or that its just an aftermarket knob sitting on the standard size shifter.??
Not damaged, I just meant that since he changed the knob, maybe he changed the lever too, which would change the position of the lever it didn't have the bend in it that the stock E30 lever has. . .see a short shifter thread.

i told him you have to be quick about these things but he didn't listen, argh.
Yes, you do need to be quick and have $ ready, but there's no need to jump on a deal if the price isn't right. I agree with E9; this car is worth ~$2k if it drives tight. Your best move would've been to put in a bid for ~$2k and let it ride, not to have bought this car for $2900. Like I said in another purchase thread, there's a sucker born every minute, but every E30 out there doesn't get snapped up by a sucker. Keep looking at cars and making reasonable offers. Sooner or later all the planets will align, and you will strike a deal with a reasonable seller. You probably need to go check out ~5 cars to get an eye for what is worth $2k and what is worth $3k. Oh yeah, fewer suckers are out looking at cars and buying them for too much $ when the weather sucks. You are more likely to get a good deal in winter.
Maybe there should be a "HOW TO BUY AN E30" forum where all the purchase threads are kept???

Well ill tell you one thing, well wait.. its a private dealer... not bmw dealer is it ? well if its a bmw dealer they usually did an inspection on it. And they aren't then ... make sure nothings wrong with it engine wise....
Ask for a warranty incase something blows on you, if they gonna charge you 2900 ask for a warranty. if not everyones right bring that down, i've seen a better deal. My pastor just bought 89 325is with 154k miles all in good condition and he got it for 2500. Not to mention you have to register it and maybe even smog. So around 1800-2200 decent price
basically for 2900 keep in mind you have to register it and smog and u might have to replace some stuff.
OK, I see part of the problem . . . only 2 E30's within 250 miles of ZIP 98335, both at used car dealers, and 1 is an eta automatic. The same search returns ~25 E30's here. I see now why you thought this was the 1 for you: It was a 325i, and it was for sale in your area. If there aren't ever many for sale near you, then yeah, you'll have to jump on what you can get locally and pay more or do some traveling.
