    Heater Blower motor

Is this something that you would want to buy new becuase they don't tend to last? Mine doesn't work and i'm looking to replace it soon.

Does anyone know how much this part will cost (new/used)?

    Is it an easy install?

    Thanks in advance.

I would just get a used one, the motors themselves are pretty reliable, but be sure that the fan blades are in good shape and aren't about to crack. Install is very straightforward.

I think I’m going to ebay it. It's hard to get used parts around here; some guy has all of the wreaked e30's and he charges WAY too much for everything.
      Thank you

Is the blower motor in the middle of the windshield wipers under a piece of sheet metal? Thats where i thought it was. If thats where it's at how do you go about replacing that...it's seems it would be real hard.

pop hood. remove firewall cover, remove blower cover straps, lift off blower motor cover, remove blower motor clip, gently lift out blower motor.

          Something like that. :P

You have to lift the engine harness off the firewall cover yea i think forgot to meniton that.

New blower motors cost at least $250. Used ones can be found for under $50.

Just be careful about cracking the "squirrel cage" blades when installing. Also, make sure the motor is mounted/seated properly, and the blades don't touch anything when spinning. The motor itself is pretty powerful and if the blades are cracked enough or rub something, they pretty much blow up... literally. Then you'll hopefully be left with one of the two sets of blades still working, which is luckily still enough to keep air blowing into the car pretty hard.

Are you SURE you need one? It's very common for the resistor to fail (mounted just below the motor--about two inches wide with springs). They're cheap and simple to install (often you can just pull it, clean it, and put it back).

Another possibility is the brushes/commutator are dirty and not making contact. You can clean those up yourself as well. Yes, the motor is pretty easy to get out and back in.

Always try the free stuff first!

When blower motors die, at least in my case, it's a gradual thing. It will start to work progressively weaker until it only works sometimes, then not at all.

In my case I was in the Canadian rookies on my way to Vancouver from Edmonton. It was 30+ outside and the A/c was going full blast. All of the sudden smoke and burnt electrical smells are prevalent throughout the cabin. I quickly got the pioneer “keys” out of the glove box to take my deck out incase we could put out the fire. There was no fire just smoke and the fan hasn’t worked since. I thought the car was going to burn to the ground. I’m getting a fire extinguisher when I bring it out of storage.

                      The resistor was blown already

I think it's the blower... what do you people think?

                      Spaz I’ll PM you soon.

                          fuse #20.

that what happened to me quite often. blower motor died, you smell a burn coming in (from the fuse got burnt). i brought it to a mechanic, they said i need a new blower motor. they put back the old one in and changed the fuse. worked like a charm. one day my buddy burnt the fuse again. i thought, damn ... i really need a blower motor now. then i changed the fuse, it works like a charm again :)
