Nice never saw that page on Tire Rack.... if money permits I'm going with RE750s for sure then. That or Falken Azenis.

    Good link

In comparison to 44 tires tested, it ranked no. 13 overall. Not bad for the value. Tested by pro's, not by "in my opinions"

Yea, I checked the Tirerack test results...on the wholesale website. :nice:

I have made a decision to go with a different tire though. Thanks for the input fellas.

just had some fitted to the rear of mine, just as grippy as the pirelli p6000s ethy replaced at a lot cheaper.

will see on how they wear though.

Interesting that so many do not like the 712. Over the last 3 years Ive bought 8 of them ina 235/40R17 fitment.

THe first set were on my Z3 and they felt pretty damn good. Got 15000 miles out of them as well - hard driving. Ive had them on the 328 for a year and the wife has never complained.

Ive had them on the track, driven the dragon with them, all with good results. They have provided decent feedback and a nice predictable linear feel. Heck, even a few yaers ago Solo 2 national champion Pat Salerno used them on his boxter.

For the price the 712 is a decent tire, but it does have its moments. When new they feel greasy for the first 500 miles. As they approach the end of their useable life, wet and corner traction will diminish.

Perhaps the issues mentioned in this thread a indiginous to smaller tire diameters?

Mario is right. I ran 712s on my ITR with good success, street and autocross. For the $$$, only the azenis touches them, and those suck in the rain. for a cheap street tire, the 712s are better than most any all season or other 'budget' choice

get falkens.... they cost the same if not less and the treadwear isnt that bad on them.... the kumho's are like 65-80 each.... and you could get the falkens for like 55-75 each.... not quite sure what the treadwear rating on the 712's are i think like 280 ..... but the falkens have a rating of 200

i have had not problems with them in the rain.... and i live in seattle!!! i did have a problem in the snow..... a very big problem, but the 712's would only be a tiny bit better.... dont waste your money of 712's they are not a predictable tire and they really dont have good wet traction at all.... plus they look gay

                        I'm going to get Sumitomo's, 205/50/15 HTR200.

Before the bashing comes, give me a chance to defend myself.

First off, the size (205/50/15), is quite a bit undersized for an E30. Here are my reasons for using 205/50:
                        1. Shorter gears. I like to get to redline ASAP
                        2. Make the speedo read optimistic. Then I can cruise at 10-over and think I'm making good time, but not have to worry about getting pulled.
                        3. Shorter overall tire height. This will be beneficial for when I do the 5-lug swap (since I'm using 15" 5-lug wheels, i'll swap over the tires.) It will decrease the chance of rubbing.

As for the choice in rubber, you probably know that the HTR 200 is not the stickiest tire around, and isn't considered a high-performance tire by most. However, I've run 2 sets of them (225/50/15 and 195/60/14) and I have no complaints with them.

They have a pretty high treadwear (360), and they arn't as grippy or responsive as a UHP Yoko, but for what they are, they're good tires. The 205/50 size should be a bit snappier though, with the shorter sidewalls. Plus, I can always crank up the pressure if they feel too mushy.

oh... i forgot the falkens are on national backorder, so even if you wanted them you would have to wait 6 to 8 weeks....... at least.... right now i am searching for a set... one of my buddies just got the last set in the north west

those sumitomos arent that bad..... they come in 185/50/hr13...... one of my buddies put those tires on ATS cup 13x8, and 13x9 on his small bumper a2... it looks sick

I don't have those suminto's but I've got HTR ZII on the front of my 88 325is I've been very happy with them, in 205/50/r16 there $78 a tire but both my front tires are bald on the inside edge after one year.
I'm probally going to get Bridgestonm Re 740's or 750's as I've got older 730's on the rear and love them.
