    labor costs

my uncle wants me to rebuild his e30. alpina c2 2.7

What should i charge him labor wise as i am clueless
    he wants these done

    >>>1. oil pump
    >>>2. timing belt
    >>>3. water pump
    >>>4. need all pulleys
    >>>5. need all external belts
    >>>6. t/o bearing
    >>>7. possibly new main bearings
    >>>8. freshen up the head with new seals
    >>>9. change out all the seals and gaskets that need replacing
    >>>10. change out the clutch
    >>>11. possibe bent suspension arms on driver side front and back

i believe i am gonna pull the transmission and motor to do this. most likely i will.

I just need a ballpark range so i can give him a cost for labor.

Damn, thats a lot of work. Do you like this uncle? I would do it all for $1000. If, you don't like him, charge more:p

well, if you really mean on 7, main bearings, engine must be pulled for that. Rod bearings can be changed in car, this is probably what you mean. I would say 20-30 hours for that list.

I would go 1K as well. I had a shop quote me everything like that, but the CA's for 850.00

          I'd say $1500.

Have him go to a few BMW shops for quotes just so he knows you're not going to screw him.

i'd say 2-3k if you are really doing all that. Just tell him 15/hr x real work hours..

My dad does that for friends and family. He has the person get a few quotes and cuts that price in half (if at all possible).

I owe my uncle for some tools he has let me borrow over the past year or so. I would say do it free and swap all of the components of his car onto your own :p like a loving nephew should.

                  damn

I would charge 2,000. That is me. Call around as said and see what people are charging. You also have to consider the value of what could be destroyed if items are not done correctly.

Would cost you at least $1500 at the shop where I work. I go by the BMW labor guide.

                      That's a LOT of work!

Pulling the engine and trans together isn't a bad idea if you're going to be doing both engine AND transmission work. Might as well change the guibo, and the trans selector rod seal. That probably falls into the category of "replace all seals."

Bent control arms are easy in the front, but wtf happened to the car such that the rear trailing arms are bent? Off-road excursion? Curb? Damn! That job isn't too too bad, but still, a pain in the ASS.

If you have to change the oil pump, water pump, all seals and bearings and do the head, that's like an engine rebuild to me. That will take about 40 hours, including removing and reinstalling the engine. A shop will charge at least $3k for labour + parts (and they will charge parts at full inflated shop price).
Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.
