    325es purchasing question

I'm still trying to find a good deal to build up a car I can autox and then track.

The car I went and saw today was an 86 or 87 325es with 270k miles. The body is in good condition, the interior is trashed. We tried getting it to start cranks, turns over but doesnt start. He had replaced the fuel pump and we cleaned off the distributor contacts but still doesnt start.

This is a cali car, no rust, clean underbody. The guy is looking for $250 for it but will probably go a little lower.

Things that bother me most are that with this car, my first step would be a complete build up into a track car. A big 4-5k investment rather than a gradual build up that I would prefer.

You guys have gone through different condition cars and so I greatly appreciate your feedback.

If it is a clean body, I would say go for it. You say you want to auto x it as well as track it so the interior will be gutted anyways. I would just swap in an I motor and a new diff. You could have a nice running car for under $1500.

e transmissions have a couple holes for crank reference sensors in them, but other than that are the same and will bolt up.

        Correct me if I'm wrong. . .
        The current fleet:
        1992 325ic: 148k-171k miles
        1999 Chevrolet Tahoe LT 4WD, 114k-142k miles
1984 MasterCraft Stars and Stripes Powerslot (not a car :D) PCM Ford 351W, 904 hours

Why so expensive? An i motor would cost ~300, what else would be needed?
