So I was on my way home.............

Going south on the 15, at around Rancho Bernardo Dr. And all of the sudden my engine light comes on, and my temp gauge shoots all the way over. So I quickly pull off the motorway, and shut it down. Damn there was steam every where, in fact I almost thought my car was on fire at first.
Well I pop the hood and the first thing I check is my dipstick, and under the oil cap........... Thank God! no water in the oil. After it cools down, I turn the key and it fires up fine. (OK the timming belt is OK).
But not knowing what is wrong, I decide that a tow is a lot cheeper than a new engine at 1030PM at night.
Well $200 later (25miles home on a flatbed) my car is in the car park, and tomorrow it goes on another hook to my mechanics. I am just hoping it is a hose, water pump, or a thermostat?
    DAMN! this totally blows! :ohsnap:

Either a hose blew, or you lost the belt for the waterpump/alternator.

    Both easy fixes.

you should start looking at things myself before you take it to a mechanic, its possible that a hose just popped off your radiator and can easially be reattached or something simple like that. Best to look for the obvious before you pay for another tow and have the mechanic look at the car.

On my '87, the motor mounts were so shot that the lower radiator hose was shredded by the alternator fan.

No new speakers for a while, huh?

Good that you are OK though.
