    Oil temp send location

I know they made drain plugs that are fitted with the oil temperature sender for an oil temp gauge, but how "accurate" are these, since they are located at the bottom of the oil pan..im not sure if my questioning in unwarranted, but it seems that having the temp come from the bottom of the oil pan could get lower numbers than oil elsewhere in the engine.

The factoy oil temp gauge on the M3 is mounted next to the oil pressure switch near the filter. I'd guess this to be a more accurate spot than the drain plug.

I know this is a little OT, but since it's an oil temp send thread, does anyone know if the UUC Motorwerks E36 canister lid w/the taps for oil pressure/temperature will fit an E30? I looked at my friend's lid and compared it to mine and they seem almost identical.

EDIT: Nevermind, checked the ETK and part numbers for the E36 and E30 lids are the same, so it will fit.
