On the speeding note, my little escapade earlier seems to have worked wonders. I came home and wrote my friend an email laying out my exact thoughts on our disagreement and when driving later I found myself doing no more than 5 mph over, a far cry from my average 10 - 15.

Perhaps I needed a moment of pure, reckless insanity to return me to a level and functional state. I must a carmo, like emo, only involving stupid shit with cars rather than bad music and self mutilation...

AHAHAHAHA!!! Here in Chile it's called "Cuarto de libra" which is a quarter pounder, but nobody knows what a pound is, much less what ends after dividing it by four... :D

And YES 130 IS utterly stupid, specially if it was in my car.

The worst thing about going too fast is causing an accident that causes someone to get killed or seriously injured. I once rear ended this old guy who had to be taken away in the ambulance with an oxygen mask on his face. I do not know what ever became of this guy as to whether he was seriously injured or the exact severity of his condition but the police department would not tell me. And I apologized to the police officer investigating the accident and I asked him to apologize to the old man for me but no amount of apologies can undo the damage done. So even if you run over some kid putting the trash out on the curb or someone's dog who rant out in the middle of a quiet street, you will never be able to apologize enough.

True, and I can't agree more, and my dear friend Brendan will be hearing from me on this however....
it's not just speeding WAY over the limit that kills people. I'm an EMT/FF and recently in my town we had a fatal crash on the highway. The two vehicles involved we're going much faster than the average person going 5-10 over. The cause?? One of the drivers was merging and didn't check their blind spot. The other vehicle was forced off the road and hit a tree. The front of her vehicle was crushed in so far that she was crushed into her seat. When we arrived on scene we initially listed her as status 1 (requires immediate transport)however, after some further investigation we realized she was nearly gone already and if we moved the shrapnel that had basically disemboweled her, it wouldn't do her any good. They weren't going any faster than the usual speeds for highway. I'm not saying that you guys are that numb, just remember, some people are and it's not just speed that kills.
