What is the best paint to use on the e30 mirrors? not sure what metal they are made of, i tried zinc chromate primer and it peeled. any suggestions, anyone painted them with success?

mirrors for a few idiots
o.k. i didn't think i would have to explain this in depth.
the metal part on the mirror is the base that attaches to the car, the plastic part is the housing that contains the mirror. guess some people cant think things through with any logic. All i wanted to know was what is the best way to paint the metal base? etch primer? etc. also whats the best bet for painting the plastic housing? If anyone wants to answer or give me a lead to someone who has done it that would be great.Comment

You are right.. they ARE metal on the base. I can't even figure out what kind of metal this is.. its almost like its the die-cast that they use to make Matchbox and Hot Wheels cars but its not quite that heavy. Try a 2-part epoxy primer. I don't know if it will work on that kind of metal but it sticks to just about ANYTHING. I happen to have my mirrors off the car right now and I notice that the factory painted the base on both sides.Comment
