    Thinking about changing projects

So I have an 85 "e" that I bought for 400$ from the police auction. It's almost entirely stripped, and has plans to rebuild, paint, etc.

    Locally there is a 1990 325is that I think I could grab for a little over 2000$.

Here's my thinking, my current project would cost over 2000 just for paint and euro bumpers. If this car has good paint, and the plastic bumpers are in good shape -- I could just start on a new better condition ride, and ditch the hooptie.

Problem is the one for sale is an automatic, I figure if I steal all the manual transmission parts off my current ride, it shouldn't be too hard to swap. Right?

I need a push in the right direction. My girlfriend is going to kill me when I tell her I'm buying another car.

sounds like a good decision i believe you can use your manual tranny and financially it makes way better sense to go that route. sounds like your main concern is the gf. now is the time to make her understand that your hobbies are important to you before she becomes the ball and chain.

nah she's cool, she'd probably agree it makes the most sense. I just have to sell the volvo, and due to serious space concerns I'd probably have to put the new car in storage till I'm finished stripping the eta and get the shell to the wrecker. Two weeks ago we had 5 cars and a 1 car garage. Down to four, once the volvo goes, three.

Look at it this way- She will make decisions and do things without consulting you and not think twice about it. If she makes you sleep on the sofa, put her stuff on the curb and go get another gf.

get the is , convert to manual, sell your 85e. in the end you'll have an 325is and spend your time/money upgrading it instead of bringing the 85e back to life to the 90is level. imho.

                my opinion

The E bimmer is only an option after you get a nice Is or I for that matter. but i wouldnt want to start off with an eta.
sell the Eta, get a new timing belt water pump and thermostat and see about getting the valves adjusted and you will be so much more happy. (i think)
but the rewards of having a titties 85 bimmer are priceless. (much like matts use to be) i drove it like 2k miles and WOW, it was like a new car -AC but ive never had a car with it so i wasnt missing out.
                anyways my .02

the girlfriend agreed, in fact she said "why are you asking me? you're going to do what you want anyways, its your money, and it makes perfect sense anyways"

Plus the more I think about it, even if this local IS turns out to be not so great, I may wreck the rusty eta shell anyways and start shopping for an I with good paint. The risk is that I lose all motivation and never buy another.

get them both, since the e is already stripped, turn it into a track rat. sell one of your other remaining three cars

I'd love to, but space is a concern, and I figure I have enough money over time to do one right, not two half ass.

Josh, with all of the parts you have/had collected, you could go either way.
I think you should get on the whole "buy a shinier shell with an "i" motor" groove right away.

In fact, seems to me I asked you exactly that when I saw your "project".

Waddaya gonna do with the shell if you do this?

PS your Vulva should sell well here, except for the fact that College lesbians can't use a stick...

teacher wants to buy it for her 16 year old son. I'll let you know if it goes down, if you're around I'll stop by the shop and see your growing collection of e30's. The whole family has em now.
