New Car Trailer - Best Tie Downs?

Hey, just picked up a new trailer for hauling the E30 around. I ordered an 18ft deck, 2ft beavertail (dovetail?) and dual brake axles.

Now, this is a multi-purpose trailer. Not only will it haul the car to Auto-x and track events, but I am going to build some sides for it to haul brush and whatnot.

I'm trying to decide what to do for tie-downs. I've seen some axle strap sets which seem to be pretty safe for any car I do decide to haul. Then, there are the kind that wrap around the wheels. Looks like a decent idea, but considering I may haul vehicles that could possibly not have suspension - that would pose a problem.

Also, curious if anyone has had issues with where to tie down to on the trailer since this isn't a dedicated car hauler. There are stake sides, but I'm leary to clipping a hook on it and cinching the car down.

    Thanks for any advice!

I've always had good luck with the D-hook plates that bolt to the floor. Can put then wherever you want.

    BTW, nice trailer. I'm jealous.

You can go to Home Depot and grab some of those yellow tie downs for ~$20 each. Great price, come with a good sized hook on the end to grab the lip of the trailer and will hook in the OE tiedown in the front bumper, or any other part. I'd suggest that you either fab tow hooks or that you come up with a wheel chock situation to secure the car on the trailer.

Any home deopt, lowes, or any trailer supply shop will sell nylon ratchet straps. We use em on our boat... holds 3500lbs to the boat trailer....

Any plans for a tire rack up front??

Skip the yellow straps from HD, they will slip out of the hooks with the slightest release of tension.

Get some of the purpose-made car tie-downs with the flat hooks and retainer clips. Buys some good quality stuff and you will not regret it. It's really aggravating to be fighting with balky ratchets on cheap tie down straps everytime you tie down the car (BTDT).
