Not sure of the answer, but very interesting sentence structure. However, I'm sure someone will have the solution.

What speeds? 2-5 mph? 10-20? If you are just creeping, then your car must be stalling, possibly due to making little power, or your brakes are dragging somewhat. This is all I can guess right now.

        Sounds like a bad poem.

I have the same problem (if I understand your post correctly). Say you're going 10mph in 2nd gear and u let off the gas. The car clunks and jerks backwards, which pushes you forward in your seat. or are you experiencing a constant bucking?

I was thinking it's time to change the differential fluid with redline, as it probably has the same fluid it came with 20 years ago.

i think that when this is happening your car is at or close to idle, so when you let off the gas, with the clutch still engaged, your car (especially if it is an "i") is struggling to keep the car rolling.

that is why it clunks, your diff fluid is probably fine, and will have no effect on this, simply because the engine is struggling to stay at idle, since in 2nd gear at 10 mph you are at about 700-800 rpms. which is right above factory idle. and its hard for the car to keep moving.

I didn't have exact figures, but 10mph in 2nd in my car is still around 1100rpm. I can replicate the problem even at 20mph in 2nd so I don't know why the car would be struggling to stay alive.

Shitty fluid will cause clunks. Anyway, just throwing an idea out there.

Shitty fluid could be a small part of the problem, but more likely the diff is actually worn out of spec, or your fuel injection is running too lean.

I say lean because at idle if you lean it out you can get hiccuping and surging, and in my E28 if I lean out the AFM more than about 2.5 or 3 full turns from full rich, I get the exact problem you are describing - low speed, low gear jerking. Richen up the AFM and see what happens.

You may also try the Bosch Design III injectors. I added those plus a 3.0 bar fpr to my 533i about 8 months ago and it drives super creamy smooth, and my fuel economy increased!

dude, use your clutch. it sounds like your expecting it to keep driving itself with the clutch engaged at idle.

                        english. use it.

The reason a car would buck is "lash" in the drivetrain. Gears don't mesh perfectly, especially in older cars such as ours. Combine all of that space, and the drivetrain will act as a spring of sorts and the car will jerk at low speeds. This is compunded by the compression braking of the engine. Solution: use the clutch and don't let rolling RPM drop too far below 2000 RPM on deceleration.
