"Bownie Points" is an American expression. In Girl Scouts (an organization for girls ages 5 - adult), there is a level of membership called "Brownies" To advance to the next level of membership, you have to earn badges and credits, or "points".

Basically the expression means that you did something that earns you a pat on the shoulder.

(My wife is a Girl Scout leader, I'm not some girl scout pervert, lol)
