whats the deal with attempted break-ins?

so i go out to my car today and i notice this on the passenger side trim

some dip-shit jack-ass of a amatuer car thief, tried to break into my car by prying on the window trim. all i had in my car that was visable was a cheap pair of sunglasses ( which i love by the way) and an aftermarket cd deck. any way the moral of the story is that car thiefs should rot in hell, I guess i'm just lucky that the moron didn;pt know what the hell he was doing so he couldn't steal anything. the only probem is that a car alarm would have done nothing to prevent this, so anybody else ever have their car stolen or atleast attempted to?

I've caught several guys eyeing stuff in my car before, but showing up at the right time will make most of them walk away.

Showing up 2 minutes later will make most of them be carried away, maybe even on a stretcher.

I use the sunshade all the time so they cant see inside the car and if I am going to be parked for a while I make sure and let the horn honk when I arm it so they know its gonna be noisy. I also refuse to park anywhere but end spots where my car is plainly visible from the street.

I try not to let them see anything because most of what happens here is smash and grab where they break a $100 window to steal some $20 shades.

Just be thankful you dont have a honda, they have learned its easier to take a screwdriver and a mallet and hit the door handle insert to open the door, resulting in 3-500 worth of bodywork.
          Im now E30less.

Last summer I was living in an apartment complex that had a large field behind it. I guess one night some guys came walking thru the field, and started snooping around my car with flashlights. Luckily my neighbor was on his porch and yelled out at them. The guys went running off.

Funny thing was, this was my '98 Neon... there was nothing visible inside of it, not even change. About all they could've stolen was the crappy, stock tape player.

Someone recently tried to break in to my trunk and in the process fucked up the lock. I had to drill the lock out and have yet to replace it. Would YOU do that to a primered Bimmer? It had to be someone who knows I have a system.

I didn't realize so many E30's were subject to attempted breakins. My car has never been touched, ever. The only cars really broken into around here, are Hondas. They are EVERYWHERE.

I will get a security system some day, not anytime soon though.
If our doors were double locked, burglers would have a hard time getting into our cars, wouldn't they? Would it even be possible? (without breaking glass of course)

The title of this thread sounds like the lead-in to a Seinfeld joke.
