The advantage of the two door, you always have an excuse to only let one person ride, especially if you have a roll bar / cage / no rear seats... or a 6 series.

There was a 4 door e30 race car at the picnic this year.

And the having a sunroof isn't an issue and you would strip it and weld/glue it panel into place anyway.

Stiffness isn't really an issue either as a proper cage should take care of that.

lol when you are 6' or more there will be no room in the back of a 4 door anyway.

I suppose that might be true in an E30... I'm like 6'3" and I fit in the back of my E28 pretty well though.

            E30 Curb Weights:

Here are the weights for all US SPec E30s:

            Curb weight:

            2811 lbs (325i 2-door, all years)
            2850 lbs (1987 325i 4-door)
            2813 lbs (1987 325is)
            2895 lbs (1988 325i 4-door)
            2865 lbs (1988 325is)
            2844 lbs (1989-1991 325i 4-door, 1989-1990 325is)

I race a 4-door E30 and don't feel I am at any disadvantage to the 2-door E30s. Easier to access the back area for putting in the video camera, or whatever.

Either way, if you want to lighten the car for track use, get into the trunk and pull out the sound deadening. At least 50lbs of the stuff back there.

Logically then, I'd start with an '84 or '85 325e as they were lighter than everything you listed.

Quote from Fred Larimer's "BMW Buyers Guide"
