just get the new csb, guibo, trans/engine mounts and some shifter bushings, do it all while the drive shaft is dropped.

less than $100 and it will be good to go!

Just make sure you get the driveline angle perfect, I put in new engine mounts and didn't think to check the angle, duh!...bye bye guibo

I agree. I recently bought a parts car that has a blown head gasket amongst a bunch of other problems but surprisingly I was able to get it through inspection. So whenever I take the car out for a spin, I drive it like there will be no tomorrow!

I would really like to get the car fixed up, but dropping the driveshaft looks haaaard. I jacked it up to give it a shot.

I don't understand how the hell you're supposed to get the a wrech in to remove the exhaust from the manifold. Nor do I understand how to get the flex disc off the tranny... but it just hit me that the ebrake was engaged when I was under there. So that's why it wouldn't spin!

                        I lose.

Spent 11 hours on the "two hour" job of removing the CSB. My car is still up on jacks. I am nowhere near being finished, the driveshaft is the biggest headache I've ever encountered. I can't race tommorow. All I have to look forward to is another day of working on the stupid driveshaft. I have missed one of the only 3 rallycrosses this year.

Interesting. That might be why mine disintegrated after only a month. How do I ensure that the driveline angle is correct?

Dude, you're giving up way to easily. The mid-pipe to header bolt comes out if you use a couple extensions and a pivoting socket thingy while laying on your back. You may have to get a little creative with the angles, but in 10min or so, you'll have them out. Use some Liquid Wrench or blaster to loosen 'em up a couple hours before.

You won't need to remove the rear of the driveshaft from the diff, so don't worry about that. The guibo bolts will come out with patience and a few times of rotating the shaft and getting up to lock the e-brake again.

The CSB is tricky. I just cut the outer ring off with a knife, be careful though, and used a 3 jaw puller to pull it off. Then after cleaning it all up, I put the new one on, then used the old bearing to take a beating from a pipe that fit down over the spindle.

It takes a little while, but it's definitely not one of the harder jobs on an e30. Good luck.

"If I were filthy rich I'd still drive my E30."

I got it done, it was just an enormous pain with some important lessons. The driveshaft wasn't lubricated well enough I realize now, meaning that it wouldn't expand/contract, wherever I pushed it on it would freeze.

For some reason it didn't hit me for a while, I just kept uninstalling/reinstalling the driveshaft trying to get it to the perfect length. At least I could to a driveshaft removal in my sleep now. I didn't remove the exhaust either, just dropped it. There's plenty of room.

Moral of the story: Lubrication is very important. For cars and for women.
