The 3.5 CSL made 430hp @ 8500rpm according to Bimmerworld! That was thanks to the 4 valve head.

These cars made between 345 and 375 horses depending on what year they were from. IIRC max power was at 8500 RPM. These was an article in either a Roundel or a Bimmer on a batmobile 5 or 6 months ago.

I used to watch the batmobile race at Riverside (California) in the mid-70's when I was a kid. I remember my uncle raving about how the BMW's were absolutely destroying the Porsche turbo 930's in the long straightaway.

The CSL race cars ran a variant of the M30 motor known as the M49 that evolved into the M90, M88 and finally S38. The M49 block wound up in the E12 M535i and early Euro 635CSis with an SOHC head where it was known as the M90, and in the M635, E28 M5, and E34 M5 as the M88 and S38. Over bored and shorter stroked than the M30, they had 93.355mm cylinders and an 84mm stroke. They feel different than a standard M30, even a Euro B34. Ken (Auto da fe) is lucky enough to have a genuine Euro M90 in his 335i
