where to get a 28mm thin wall deep socket to...

to take out #4 in this diagram:
    http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...33&fg=10&hl=47

I am looking to replace the seal while tranny is out and the only 28 I could find had a thick wall.

A lot of guys just buy a cheap socket and then grind the lower part of it down to fit .

A real thin-walled socket will be more expensive .

      It's not 28mm BTW.

      Pretty sure it's 30 or 32mm.

And what Teabagger said is on the money.

I bought an el-cheapo socket and ground down the outside to make it fit. Worked great for a couple of years, then I loaned it to someone and it came back broken (must have used an impact wrench on it........ )

i did the same. i chucked it up in a lathe and turned it down. then i loaned it out and it went all over the united states and never got returned. if you go this route get an impact socket as they are softer and turn easier.

I borrowed mine from a friend's shop. He was surprised when I returned it 10minutes later. ;)

I bought a cheepie from autozone and ground it down. When i walked up to buy it the lady told me that they rent the tools out if i didnt want to buy it. I thought about it, but then decided it wasnt worth the hassle. In retrospect, it would have been priceless to see their faces when i returned it.

nope it is a 28mm and the link to that site calls for a 1 1/16th which is one size too small 1 3/8 will work

but ill check out auto-zone , pep boys in burbank didnt have anything bigger than a 27
