I just finished my 5-speed swap a few weeks ago. Everything does bolt up like everyone is saying with the exception of the exhaust mounting.

The middle section of the exhaust bolts to a mount on the trans brace. Since the manual trans is shorter, the brace mounts further forward and the mounting tab welded to the exhaust doesn't line up any more. Not really a big deal, easy fix if you can weld, cheap and easy for an exhaust shop to fix if not. I haven't even bothered to fix it since the rest of my mounts are nice and stiff. There may be a work-around for this that I'm not aware of, I'm sure someone will chime in.

As far as the criuse control, it's super easy to get it working. Just remove the start relay and it's harness which manual cars didn't leave the factory with and it's like your car was never an auto. Check out this link, it details how to handle the wiring the right way (no hacking):

Anyway, it's a good idea to be patient and try to find the car that's everything you want. However, the swap is an option and it's not all that hard to do.

      I miss the old BMW
