so i guess the ultimate m-30 would be a 91-92 s-38. what kind of hp are you looking at in stock form?
has anyone tries the IE m-30 headers yet?

the s38 is not an m30. They're two separate engine codes.

S38's are 315 hp stock, but they are a sh*t ton of money for rebuilds, which they need after every, what, 100k miles?

Evan, they aren't the same engine, correct, but they are the same family... Cut the guy a little slack!

der affe: Just to clarify, M30 headers only fit the M30, and all M30s are 12 valve motors. S38 headers fit the S38 only, and all S38s are 24 valve motors.

The 3.5 liter S38 found in the E28 M5 and E24 M6 makes 256hp in US spec, or 286hp in euro spec. The 3.6 liter S38 found in the E34 M5 makes 310 - 315hp depending on your source. The 3.8 liter S38, the largest 6 cylinder BMW motor ever produced, makes 340hp and was found only in euro M5s with the Nurburgring package.

ok that's out of the question then.
on another note Wolf now has a plug and play stand alone with 88-91, 3 series specific harness ....only $2200.00. just incase anyone was wondering.

Sorry If I came across as harsh or short. My sis has a ricer e34 (I tried to stop it) and I really love the M30. If I didn't AX, I would do the swap.

Does any Tuner make a California smog legal turbo kit?

Looking to run low boost ( 5-7 lbs.) on a low miles, stock motor.

California legal is a whole other issue... I would expect the answer to be no, since there are only two M30 kits that you can buy new anymore, the TCD kit and the other guys kit which is more expensive and appears to be not as good... You could always call Todd at TCD however.

does the trans you need to use for the swap, suffer from the "lay shaft bearing noise" that the e-30/m-20 5 speeds have (sorry i don't know the number of the getrag trans's)
