    Good Ol Reckless Ticket

on the way to va beach on 264 near hampton roads. apparently the speed limit is 55 and i thought it was 65. and even better its july 4th so all the state troopers are out. i was going about 70 (keep in mind i thought i was only going 5 over) and a state comes right behind me and flicks his lights on. WOOHOO. so here's the conversation.
Cop: turn down your music! (as he says it from his car)
Me: sir my music is off.
    Cop:OOOhh well thats your exhaust!
    Me: yes sir.
Cop: (as he comes to my window) give it a little gas.
((i wanted to just rev that shit up to 7k but my brain said no))
    Me: (reved it to 2k)
Cop: youre tryin to tell me that's legal?
Me: yes sir it has a muffler and catalytic converter. (even tho any adjustment to OEM is illegal in VA)
Cop: (sees i just have a richmond bmw front plate) youre supposed to have a front plate in virginia you know that? where are you from?
    Me: uh richmond sir.
Cop: let me see your license and registration. (and proceeds to walk back to his car and write me a reckless 20 mph over and no front license plate)

..i had a great 4th of july, how about you!!

I'm from Richmond. Man, I love it there, but they really crack down on traffic offenses hard. Here in Socal, they could give a shit what you do.

Sorry man.. that sucks, but you really have to watch what you're doing out there, especially on 64 and 95. (and 295, 264)

Just be glad you weren't in Oregon and got a reckless. Here, you go to jail. It's not just some 20 over ticket.

Yeah, but what qualifies you for a reckless ticket in Oregon? Here in CT, it's if your traveling 87mph (or more), or doubling the speed limit. Is it if your traveling 20 over anywhere?

I am not quite sure how that works here. I got a reckless two years ago and all that happened to me was I lost my license and had to pay a few fines. I was 17 at the time but I don't think that had any affect on it. Good news for me though, I got the ticket reduced to careless driving about 6 months after getting the ticket.

I was merely making the point that in Oregon, reckless driving is not just a 20 over ticket. You'd have to be drifting through the streets and hitting old ladies to get a reckless here. And if you did, you would probably go to jail (but not all the time as ^^^ said).

20+ or anything over 80 in VA is a reckless felony as well, they can toss jail time if they're feeling like a prick.

You guys are funny. I drove fast when I was a kid but not like that. I always had access to a track to let loose so I never drove fast on the streets.

I think you guys need to start autoxing or something to learn to drive like a maniac under controled situations and drive responsibly on the streets.

depending what county youre in, virginia can be cool or it can suck. in richmond the cops have real problems to deal with, so as long as youre not being stupid youre okay.

You realize that the ticket is going to be alot more right? They passed something on July 1st that allows VA residents to get really, REALLY hefty fines, anywhere from $1,000 to $3,000, not including the orignal ticket cost and court fees. Read it in the USA Today magazine when I returned from my trip.

They are supposed to help fund the awful highway mixing bowl and other projects. Thankfully it is ONLY for VA residents...sorry dude, its here in black and white:

                            (b) Reckless driving: $350 to the court upon conviction, with two additional payments of
$350 each due to DMV, one within 14 months of conviction and the other within 26
                            months of conviction.
                            EDIT: More heartbreaking news...

“Judges have no leeway with the new law,” said Branscom. Which means they cannot reduce or suspend the civil fees.
And a funny video to make you feel better about speeding:

I am driving the speed limit in VA from now on...or avoiding it altogether for a very long time.

Word, Dan brought up the point I was going to.

                              You're fucked.

I seriously have to change the way I drive now, because the new laws are THAT ridiculous.
