When I got my liscense, I didnt know how to drive to well obviously. I Remember going to my buddies ranch, and on the way back having some fun. I took an "s" shaped turn that had a posted speed limit of 35 mph, and I took it going 75 mph. Pretty stupid move.... The only thing that happened was my wheels got sideways. Fortunately no cars were coming, and I didnt panic, so about 20-30 feet later, after my tires left long black skid marks, and tapping the brakes a little, the car pretty much came to a dead stop. I think if I were to ever flip it, that woulda been the time.

There's an idea of how hard a t-bone needs to be to flip one, and a REAL good idea as to how strong that roof is. Just about no B-pillar and it didnt crush. I still miss that 84 e. (figures I drive a cabrio now.....)-Dave

Awww.. come on.. 23 replies- I just knew that there would be more stories. There is a thread on here entitled something to the effect of "how safe are our cars" or "how safe is the E30" and in the discussion every other post was someone giving their account of how they either rolled the car or flipped it end over end as an example of proving how safe the car is.

Fine, stories...
On my way to work in 2003 i was hauling ass around a turn here in dublin ohio that goes to the right, under a bridge and back to the left with another right onto the main road. It was damp and the suggested speed is something like 40mph. I took it at around 75 or 80. Once the road began to merge out of the complex the back end stepped out then caught, went straight. I went through a small tree/bush, between a large tree and telephone pole and hit a huge rock. Went nose up, hit the ground after about 20 feet with the rock under me. The rock caused the car to flip, slid about another 10-15 feet, hit another tree and landed on the wheels. The car began to roll backward in the parking lot i came to rest in and was out before the car stopped moving.
Sprained back, busted molar.

not an e30 story
when i was in highschool, i jepordized 4 of my friends lives on a dirt road i didnt know so well with speeds at night that shouldnt have been.
a blind turn came up and the 84 mercedes 300 somehow managed to go straight over a dirt road ditch completely sideways and end up with a 360 through a guys yard, past his house, coming to a stop in the back yard.
only when the car stopped moving did everyone stop talking and realize how abnormal that event was, being as smooth as it went. ...or as dumb as i was driving.
times like those, i appologize the most to my friends for being immature.
i came back a few days later still in disbelief that we didnt flip to see why.
if you know dirt roads in the south, you know its a violent ditch, left and right, 15 feet appart. we must have been hauling ass. i missed two pine trees and a friggin house all while doing at least 1 360 and skidding 50-70 feet
