My baby's PO is an idiot.

So I just opened up my valve cover to do a valve job for the first time since getting the car, and to my surprise I find a cap to a milk jug literally sitting right next to the 5th valve. I don't understand how ANYONE could mess that up unintentionally. It looks like I may have discovered why my engine is knocking...

I put the cover back on (sans milk jug cap) and the car runs great. In a way it's a relief that it wasn't a major problem, but part of me wants to strangle whoever put that cover back on.

Anyone have any other weird stories of things their POs did to their cars?

Yea that PO was a lady. She put little dents where you take the top down because she had to press against the car not thinking about her belt buckle. Not as serious but pretty stupid.

And 2 previous owners ago, sold my factory issued HARDTOP!

        Maybe it was intentional.

People who buy cars from auctions sometimes manipulate the car to make it run poorly so that they trick other people into not wanting to buy it. So they do everything from swapping the spark plug wires to putting an obstruction in the tailpipe.. and even the milk jug cap or a plastic fork in the valve cover is another very common trick.

They get there early, do their dirty deed.. and then as other people come to inspect the car, they start it up and hear wierd noises and decide that they aren't going to bid on it. So then the guy who manipulated the car gets it for a much lower price being that his competition is limited.

My PO couldnt afford service that was done. So the shop sold the car to get their money and I got it for $350.

          Great PO.

But seriously.. a milk jug cap? What the hell.

my PO for my sedan just didn't clean it... ever. the stains her kids left for me to remove from the carpet took forever to clean up.

the PO of my white 2 door is the 3rd or second owner, i cant recall. he kept it clean for the most part... the only issue with him was that he cut holes in the center console to the right of the e-brake to use as cup holders. a bit ghetto for my liking.

Mine let my car sit in a field for two year sold it to another guy who put new plugs in it to get it running, then i bought it, and since then i have put some serious $$ into replacement parts (most recent being a fuel pump.)

My boss does some crazy shit to cars he buys at auctions. Like pulling the plug (just enough so you can't tell) for the crank sensor, cam sensor, little shit that he can put back once he gets the car.

Thankfully my PO tried to take care of the car, even though he couldn't really afford it. He kept it clean and in good shape at least, eventually he had a lot of mechanical work done at the dealership and couldn't afford to pay for it so he sold the car to me for the cost of the bill. :)

                          PO of my E28...
didn't do anything. I've already eclipsed the actual price of the car in parts and time to replace. (sigh)

My PO kept up on the engine work, not so much for the body work though, he really let her go.

I did find an old pair of pliers wedged between the radiator and AC condenser though.
