Putting a Hole in my Hood

I need to put a vent hole in my hood. It's unavoidable at this point. My turbo sits mere inches away from all my vital stopping fluids. I'm busy making a titanium heat shield of sorts to wall off my reservoirs, but I really need a place for the heat to go and what better place then up? I would REALLLY like to avoid just cutting out a big hole in my hood. Is there a nice way to do this?

Something like this, but not in the middle.

In this location, but not so it makes me want to stab my eyes out.

    Maybe something like this?

Is that a weber BBQ vent? Priceless.

There was someone who modified the cowling by notching the hood seal area so that air flowed right out of that and over the top of the car, you couldn't tell it was there unless you were really looking.

saab 900 turbo hood vents..they kinda look like this /////.
hit up a pick a part find one with a jacked up hood and they will give it to you for free, go home a cut it out and graft it in. look on vortex and you can prob find some pic's of them used on the pass fender for intakes.

Do not try to make a vent near the back of the hood, you will be dissapointed. The base of the window is a high-pressure area, it will force air towards the engine bay from the outside, and you will end up with two airflows fighting each other. The farther forward the outlet is on the hood, the better.

mid 80's turbo dodges had vents in the hood too, if you want to look at them.

most were non functioning though. you could make them work by cutting the openings out though. i went down that road when i worked for dodge and was looking for a way to get more cool air into the engine in my jetta. you could put viper hood vents in there...they are around $300.00 each and carbon fiber

agreed... closer to teh front of the hood is better for heat dissipation and also adds downforce

On both of my turbo dodges they was semi functional. All i did was cut the plate off under it so it could let the heat out. The one's on the K-cars was for looks IIRC.

the 90's grand cheroke (sp) seemed like a good idea for me until i found out they were just decoration?? wtf why bother putting stuff like that on the car/jeep if it doesn't work?
80's -90's turbo nissan z cars had a neat little hood scoop that was popular for the a-2 vw guy's, might look a little ricer, but i works nicely.

U could put a spacer under the rear mounts to tilt the hood up at the back... I did that, and found that my water temp staye a lttle lower when I was out on the track.
