How would you find a good motor?

Looking for ideas on shopping for a m30 motor? Where would you shop for one? On-line wreaking yards?

How do you know there is nothing wrong with the motor?

    www.theeurodepot.com will have some

however, as motors are huge, the best bet is to find one locally.

How do you know nothing is wrong? well, you don't. Be prepared to do a rebuild, or at least fix some shit.

If you're in CA, I'm sure you're going to be able to find an M30, so long as you know what cars to ask for when you call the junkyard. The M30 came in teh following cars:

        3.0CS/i/L,3.0Si

        2800/CS

        E12 525, 528

        E23 725i, 728i

        E24 633i, 635i, 635CSi

        E28 525i, 528i, 533i, 535i

        E30 333i (SA)

        E32 730i, 732i/733i, 735i

        E34 530i (6-cyl)

I think that's all of em...

Best bet would be someone parting a car or a wrecking yard. You can tell at most wrecking yards if the car was taken care off. Like a couple months ago I pulled a 325i head at a yard, I pulled the valve cover and it was nice and golden brown with new headbolts and a timing belt sticker on the airbox that was recent. So I felt good yanking the head.
Just take an over all look at the car and pull the valve cover or at least look in the oil fill cap. If it's golden brown the engine has been taken care off. if it's black and crusty the oil changes have been neglected.
When I do the m30 swap I'm planning on just buying a complete m30 equiped car. I could get an m30 at a junkyard for under $300 for engine, tranny, driveshaft, cooling parts and what not.
Also try to find a complete engine that hasn't had small parts pulled off of it like AFM, intake manifold and what not so that way the engine is still mostly sealed.

DO NOT buy an engine from them.

                        E34 530i's had the 8-cyl M60B30 engine.
                        E34 535i's had the M30 (3.4 or 3.5L?)

Korman will do anything for the cash. My friend Brian Fowler got his S14 rebuilt to stock by them... it wasn't cheap. But Korman does do incredible quality work.

                              there was an e12 525i and e23 725i/728i here? You left out e23 733i, 735i, L7 and e24 L6. e28 ¿525i? and 528i had m20s.
